Discover Ways in Finding the Best Bushcraft Knife

The number one tool that comes to the minds of every bushcraft fanatic is the knife. Bushcraft knife is the most crucial of all bushcraft tools. Why? With the knife, you can be able to cut things and create sticks and spears. Without the knife, you will not be able to make a pointed stick used in establishing a wilderness shelter.

Bushcraft knife is different from kitchen knife and any other cutting tools out there. If you wanted to get the most out of your bushcraft adventure, the first you need to do is to have the perfect knife. The question is, do you know how to select the perfect bushcraft knife? Now, that’s not a hard question. This article will help you in choosing the perfect knife to maximize your experience in attending bushcraft camps.

First of all, there are a lot of things you need to consider. Read and analyze the texts below.

Length of the Blade
The most ideal length of the blade is between four inches to five inches (10 to 12 cm). It is really not practical to use a Rambo knife that measures about 18 inches.

Weight
Weight is another factor every bushcrafter must consider. I don’t think it is practical to bring with you a very heavy knife, right? Choose only a knife that has exact weight.

Single Bevel Edge Blade
Bushcraft knife which has a single bevel edge is the best of all knives. Why? Single edge bushcraft knife is better because there is a huge potential that the tool will achieve a razor edge, which will make it more effective in cutting things. Single edged knife is also safer to use than those which have double edges.

Handle
The knife handle must offer comfort to the user. Bushcrafter must also bear in mind to select handles which are firmly attached with the blade. Asymmetrical handle is better to use at because it lessens cutting injuries to the user.

Tang
Choose bushcraft knives which have full tangs. Although a bit of weight is added, this make a stronger bushcraft knife.

Stainless or Carbon Steel, Which is Better?
Carbon steel is harder than stainless steel. However, carbon steel is prone to rust than the stainless steel. In the field, carbon steel is preferred.

Sheath
Sheaths are important to protect the user of the knife. Sheaths or knife cases must be sturdy enough to store the knife. Ensure your safety by selecting the best knife sheath.

Now you already know how to select the best bushcraft knife. Just remember, if you have a better knife, you can enjoy bushcraft adventures better.

  1. Really love my Mora Classic. As soon as I can get my hands on some antler, I’m going to rehandle it.
