Meet Clary Fray - Not Your Ordinary New Yorker

Clary Fray (Clarissa Fray) is one of the main characters from the young adult book series Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. The story is told from her perspectives. Although, in City of Fallen Angels, the story is more focused on Simon Lewis, her best friend. 

City of Bones is the first book of the Mortal Instruments series, followed by City of Ashes, City of Glass, and City of Fallen Angels. In City of Bones, Clary found out about her real identity as a shadowhunter and the reason why her mother have to keep it secret to her. I recommend you to read the books because it's really interesting to read and you'll never know you'll get hooked to it like you've been with Harry Potter and other young adult series out there.

Who is Clary Fray?

Clary is a shadowhunter or a Nephilim. She is assumed at first to be a mundane living a normal human life, prior to the beginning of the City of Bones. A shadowhunter is a Nephilim (son/daughter of Angels) who is in charged of killing demons that will enrage the mundane, Nephilim, and Downworlder world.  Shadowhunters are believed to have Angel blood on them and that's what makes them superior than the mundane (ordinary human beings) and the Downworlders (these are werewolves, warlock, faeries, vampires, etc.) You must know that mundanes can't see shadowhunters unless they want them to.

Clary is portrayed as being incredibly stubborn and a little sarcastic. She also often changes her mind and opinion about certain things and people around her. 

Clary has green eyes and curly red hair just like her mother, Jocelyn. (Clary says that she is a smaller less beautiful and more childlike version of her mother.)

Clary has a light dusting of freckles and is around 5 foot tall.

 Clary dresses in a boyish fashion, wearing T-shirts, jeans and sneakers.

Clary got her memories of being a Shadowhunter erased by a Warlock (Magnus). 

Her mother kept her from knowing she was a Shadowhunter for 16 years.

Clary first found out about the Shadowhunters when she was at the Pandemonium; when she found Jace, Izzy and Alec killing a demon in a storage room.

Clary's mom never told her about Valentine or her brother.

Clary always wished that Luke was her dad.

Mortal Instruments Film Adaptation

Clary Fray will be portrayed by Lily Collins in the movie adaptation of Mortal Instruments City of Bones.

Lily Collins was cast on December 10, 2010. Prior to being cast, she was said to be a huge fan of the series. Also, she underwent an audition with Jamie Campbell Bower, afterwhich he was cast as Jace Wayland.

According to Lily:  

Clary's journey is all about self-discovery. She's finding out throughout the story what she's actually capable of and figuring out her feelings toward two guys, as well as her mom, as well as when we find out who her dad is.
